HomeBuilder Base Setup
Important
The HomeBuilder Base Setup is to be completed after completing:
Introduction
Before you can get into the meat of setting up your operational modules of the system, such as Lots, Models and Construction Items, you need to have the initial database setups in place. Get your HomeBuilder consultant to help you with this.
Most companies take a standardized setup (a Template Company that we provide) and then adjust to their operations.
This page gives a summary of each Help File in the current Section (i.e.: HomeBuilder Base Setup):
- The HomeBuilder Setup Page gathers together configuration from around the system in a centralized place.
- On top of the base Microsoft Dynamics BC finance setup, there is Homebuilder Setup Tips and Useful Definitions that should be read before proceeding.
- Cost Groups and Cost Details is not just for reporting, it helps with data entry and does not take long to put together. Do not miss out on this setup, it pays dividends in the end.
- The Standard Adjustment Journal can be used as a template that stores a set of closing adjustment transactions that can be run upon closing lots.
- Lot Types allow you to have multiple pricing for Models based upon a Lot and they help to ensure you pick the right model for the Lot. Even if you do not want to use this functionality, you must have at least one Lot Type for the system to function. If you only have one, we attempt to automate the entry of this Lot Type wherever possible.
- House Areas and Measurement Types explains House Areas in conjunction with Measurement Types available to you in HomeBuilder with examples.
- Key Dates section explains their use in the construction process (using ***Construction Workflow Templates***and then Workflow Template Tasks) with the HomeBuilder software.
- Inspections Setup Requirements covers setup required for Inspections functionality. Its audience is consultants or highly technical people in your company.
- Global vs. Local Vendors discusses the application of each solution and how to implement it.
- Task-Item-Purchase Invoice Linking is a big picture view of the relationships between various setups and shows practical implications for each setup for various categories of end users.
- Other Setup Parameters explains various smaller topics in one spot. It is worth scanning through this article for general awareness.
Note
Technical
There are multiple setup tables in the HomeBuilder application. Additionally, the application requires certain settings in the setup tables of standard Business Central.
In order to speed up data entry for companies that have multiple BC companies (typically when you have more than one legal entity); the setup tables can be of local or global scope.
Local scope means that a setup table takes effect in the scope of the BC company. The same setup table may have different content in different companies.
Global scope means that the setup table is filled in once and takes effect for all companies or the contents of the global table can be pushed to the local company.
We strongly recommend that you use our professional services team who has access to useful tools and can also guide you through this process. This is the foundation of the data structure; get it right and it will be easier to complete the setup and easier to use the system.
